1984 Election Night: Helms vs. Hunt. 
At the time this was the most expensive gubernatorial race ever run. Mudslinging wasn’t in short supply either. Both men were extremely popular in North Carolina and I thought this might be the year that Jesse Helms was finally unseated. 
The young lady in the photo performed later that night, singing a song she had written in honor of Helms and Reagan. Helms won that night.
